PATS PARK, MACLEAY ISLAND
Pat’s Park is located on the northern point of Macleay Island and runs along a section of Beelong
Street. Park facilities include a swimming beach with swimming enclosure and BBQ area. The park
also includes an RSL war memorial.
The preliminary landscape concept for this District park proposes the following:-
-The refurbishment of the parks well used facilities;
- Respecting the existing war memorial and providing a more user freindly space for ceremonies;
-The provision of a deck space which joins the memorial to the BBQ structure to allow better use of this area for picnicers and during ceremonies;
-Opening up a new section of the park to users;
-Moving existing BBQ space and replacing the BBQ benches to a better location whilst allowing the regeneration of the currently eroding bank;
-Potentially relocating the toilets to be accessed from the car parks, this provides good servaillance.
-Implementing equitable pathways around the park;
-Rehabilitating weed infested waterways at the south eastern portion of the site. There is potential here to cleanse the stormwater run off from the council owned block opposite.
-A new playground;
-The rehabilitation of eroded and exposed roots to make safe for pedestrians;-
-The potential to 'top up' the beach with imported sand.
-The rehabilitation of the understorey to the north western bank of the park whilst addressing drainage issues.
-The implementation of hazard reduction of low lying branches, impeding movement and visual connection to the beach.
