PIONEER PARK, LAMB ISLAND

Pioneer Park is a large park located on the eastern side of Lamb Island and is accessed from Lucas Drive. The park includes the State-listed Pioneer Hall along with other facilities including a bowls and recreation club, tennis court, cricket pitch swimming enclosure, BBQ area and two playgrounds. Much of the park is open and grassed and the majority of the buildings are located on the higher
section of the park.

The preliminary landscape concept of this District park proposes the following:-

-The regrading of the existing cricket pitch and the potential to include a football or soccer field;

-The grading allows informal bleachers to watch the game or to sit and look at the view to Stadbroke;

-Above the bleachers is the potential to open up the bowls club with a substantial deck;

-Adjoining the deck is a major upgrade of the existing playround with new equipment and soft falls;

-The potential for a post and rail fence to control vehicles onto the pitch and the treatment of the existing swales to filter stormwater;

-The planting of Moreton Bay figs to the perimetre of the pitches;

-The formalisation of the car park to the bowls club with a potential overflow next to the hall, this space could also be used for bowls, tennis court or cricket nets;

-The potential for a BMX track and skate bowl to the existing gravel area at the northern end of the park;

-The provision of a useable and safe Picnic and BBQ space currently used as an informal parking space next to the existing swimming enclosure;

-This space allows a drop off for the disabled or the elderly and parking is proposed at the top of the bank next to the existing toilets;

-A potential connection to Clarkes Point;

-Equitable pathways over the majority of the site;

-A potential jetty for canoes and kayaks with an overnight camp ground with booking system managed through the Council;

-The retention of the dog off leash area;

-The refurbishment of the tennis court and pavillion;
